Ray Givans
Ray Givans is a graduate of Queen’s University, Belfast, and The University of Bath. He was a teacher of English at secondary schools in Co. Down. He has been published in four pam-phlet-length poetry collections. One of these is Earth Works, a collaboration with artist Tony Martin. His first full collection, Tolstoy in Love (Dedalus Press), was shortlisted for the Eithne and Rupert Strong Award, for best first collection by an Irish poet for 2009. A dual English/Italian version was produced by Kolibris, Bologna. Givans was the first recipient of The Jack Clemo Memorial Prize for poetry. He is the co-organiser of The Squat Pen and the Squat Pen on Tour poetry readings.
