Michael Tolkien was born in Birmingham in 1943, and brought up in rural south Oxfordshire and North Yorkshire.He studied Classics and English at St. Andrews and Oxford, and worked as a secondary school teacher in Rutland. His first pamphlet publication, Learning Not to Touch, was issued by Redbeck Press in 1997. In 1998 he was aNew Voice in the East Midlands Arts reading tour. Reaching for a Stranger, his second pamphlet, was published byShoestring Press in 1999. In 2000 Redbeck published his first full collection, Outstripping Gravity,followed by Exposures (2003) and Taking Cover (2005). |
